DatesJune 29, 1930 - July 9, 2009
Jean Janssen was born on June 29, 1930 on the family farm to Walter and Anne (Lang) Jucht, and was the oldest of the four children in the family.
Jean attended public schools and learned English when she went to first grade as German was the primary language in her household. She loved the German language and would sing German Christmas carols to her children and grandchildren. She could converse in German with her parents, grandparents and other relatives. After graduating from Bridgewater High School and working in Columbus Nebraska for a time, Jean married Vernon Janssen on November 12, 1948. To this union, three children were born; Judith Ratzlaff, Ruby Finch and Daryl Janssen. Jean devoted her life to raising her children and to her home church Plum Creek Baptist Church. She delighted in her grand children and was so supportive of all of them. She also had welcomed two great-grandchildren into the world in the past year and was so proud of them.
She served in many capacities in the Plum Creek Baptist, especially with music and the children's programs. She remained a faithful member of the church until it closed. She was currently attending Emery Baptist Church. Jean was known to many in the community as the “Avon Lady” as she spent many successful years with the company and won many awards for her salesmanship. She loved the service she could give to her customers, and was very sad when she quit due to health concerns in 2004.
Jean enjoyed her ability to travel after her retirement. She was doing what she loved when she experienced a sudden failure in her health — traveling on a bus tour with one of her friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon; her parents Walter and Anne Jucht; her sister, Dale; son-in-law Gary Finch; sisters-in-law Coleen Jucht and Vera Schilberg.
She is survived by her children: Judy (Ron) Ratzlaff Avon SD; Ruby Finch of Missoula MT and Daryl (Joan) Janssen of Sioux Falls SD, her brother ,Verle Jucht of Renner SD, sister and brother-in-law Peggy and Harvey Wollman of Sioux Falls SD and sister-in-law Ladeen (Martin) Guericke of Las Vegas, NV.
Her grandchildren: Steve (Cathy), Michael and David (Amber) Ratzlaff, Josh (Becky), Andrew, and Mark Janssen, and Rebekah “Bekah” Finch; and greatgrandchildren Justin, Jonah, Jacob and Grayson.
Jean accepted the Lord as her Savior at a young age and is at Home in Heaven with the Lord, her relatives, friends and 5 special angels.

Ruby, Judy & Daryl & Families My deepest sympathy to you all. Your mother was a very special person and I know was so proud of each one of you. Her eyes would just light up whenever she talked about any of you. I can't believe she still lived out on the farm, which you know was very dear to her, and you can truly know she spent her last days where she wanted and needed to be. Terry & I were gone on vacation and just got back last night, or we would have come to the visitation. Our prayers are sure with you all. God Bless you all!

My deepest sympathy to your family in the loss of your mother Jean. She was a dear, sweet lady . I remember her kind, caring friendship she made with all her Avon customers. My deceased grandmother Ada Brown must of been one of her best customer. I use to spend many summers at my grandma's house and remember when Jean would come to sell Avon. My grandma never sent her away without an order, in fact, I think she had one of everything in the Avon book.
May you treasure your memories of your mother and grandmother and know that we are praying for you.
