Elaine S. Kristensen was born January 5, 1920 to Jake and Kate (Hettinger) Kremer. She grew up in rural White Lake and was a 1938 graduate of White Lake High School. During depression years, she participated in the NYA program in White Lake. She married Nels Kristensen May 1, 1946, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in White Lake.
While her husband was on the road in the cattle business, she worked on the family farm and raised their two daughters. Her grandchildren were highlights in her life. She loved playing cards, and during their later years she and Nels enjoyed traveling to casinos where she was an avid slot machine player. She was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church and Altar Society.
Surviving are her daughters: Joyce (Jan) Wright, Indianapolis, IN, and Jayne (David) VanLiere, Huntington, IN; grandchildren: Ann (Eric) Watt, Cincinnati, OH, Christopher VanLiere, Wichita Falls, TX, Laura VanLiere, Huntington, IN; brother-in-law, Robert (Norma) Kristensen, White Lake, SD; sister-in-law, Betty Kristensen, Plankinton, SD; niece, Bonny (Craig) Hansen, Mitchell, SD; nephews: Gary (Jan) Kristensen and Ronald (Sandy) Kristensen, Plankinton, SD, and Lennis (Linda) Kristensen, White Lake, SD. Predeceasing her were her parents, husband, Nels, brother, Donald, and brothers-in-law: Edwin, Raymond and Lawrence.
