She was born February 28, 1928 at Kimball, SD to Nick and Agnes (Westendorf) Schmitt.  She grew up attending school in Kimball and graduated in 1947.  On December 27, 1947 she married Merle Falor at St. Margaret’s Catholic Church in Kimball.  They farmed in the Kimball and White Lake area where Berniece taught in several one-room country schools in Brule and Aurora counties.  They built a house and moved to White Lake where she helped Merle with custodial work at the school. In 1970 they moved to Presho where she was a teacher’s aid, was involved in Right to Life and was a waitress at Hutch’s Café.  After retiring they moved to Mitchell in 1994; doing custodial work at Qwest. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, the Altar Society, volunteered at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital and the James Valley Community Center.  She enjoyed dancing, including square, polka, waltz and line dancing.  She was a creative person, cheerful, took a keen interest in people and was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need.
