Obituary

Cecelia Alvina Metzger was born on January 20, 1911 at home south of Mt. Vernon to Carl & Ella (Buhmann) Scheetz.  She was baptized on January 29, 1911 and confirmed on July 11, 1926 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Dimock.  She attended grade school in Baker Township.  She helped others with domestic duties until her marriage to Harry Hermann Metzger on June 28, 1933 in Mitchell.

 

Cecelia & Harry farmed south of Mt. Vernon until his death in 1959; she remained on the farm until 1962, when she moved to Parkston.  She worked as a cook at Starlite Lanes and the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Parkston retiring in 1986.  She became a resident of Avera Bormann Manor on November 3, 2005.

 

She is survived by sons, Ralph and wife Connie, Phoenix AZ; Ronald and wife Jan, Kelso WA; daughters, Marliss Baacke, Greenfield WI and Karen Pooley and husband Mel, Mitchell SD; ten grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, two brothers, Oscar and wife Florence and Art and wife Shirley, all of Mitchell; sister Evelyn Reinfeld, Halifax PA; sisters-in-law, Regina Scheetz of Mitchell and Marcella Scheetz of Tripp.

 

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, a son and daughter in infancy, a grandson and three brothers.

 

A memorial fund has been established to Stickney Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery.
