Rudolph “Rudy” Fiala was born August 15, 1923 at Burke, SD to Frank and Rose (Samal) Fiala. He graduated from St. Charles High School in 1941. He attended Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell until he was drafted into the service. On December 21, 1947 he married Roselyn Mitchell. They farmed in the Fulton area until moving to a farm south of Artesian in 1954. In 1989 he retired and moved to Mitchell and in 2002 moved to Harlingen, TX. He attended the Artesian and Mitchell United Methodist Churchs. He was a member and served on the Board of Directors of the Harlingen Tourist and Senior Club. Besides farming and raising cattle, Rudy enjoyed pheasant hunting, watching football, gardening and playing cards.
He is survived by his wife, Roselyn; one son, Franklin Fiala and wife, Kay of Huntsville, AL; two daughters: Judy Malnick and husband, Greg of Montgomery, IL, Joanne Metz and husband, John of Crescent, IA; son-in-law, Thomas Tidd and wife, Jane of Harlingen, TX; one sister, Ruth Mitchell of Mitchell, SD; sister-in-law, Shirley Fiala of Mount Vernon, SD; six grandchildren and one step-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Sharon Tidd, sister, Rose Hanson and three brothers, Ferd, Edward and Emil.
