Geraldine Hanssen was born August 8, 1928 at Emery, SD to Leonard and Dora (Osterloo) Nelsen. She grew up and attended school in Emery and graduated from Emery High School. She was baptized at the First Baptist Church on December 31, 1940. On June 19, 1948 she married Calvin Hanssen. They farmed near Emery until retiring and then moved into Emery. For several years she worked at the Senior Citizens Center. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School and sang in the choir.
She is survived by her husband, Calvin; two sons: Ronald Hanssen and wife, Deb of Lennox; Richard Hanssen of Mitchell; four daughters: Sharon Crider and husband, Phil of Sioux Falls; Joyce Olson and husband, Bruce of Lennox; Barbara Buse and husband, Gary of Lennox; Dianne Hanssen of Lennox; thirteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, June Roskens, two brothers, Arthur and Ron, sister-in-law, Gloria Nelsen, two brothers-in-law, Clarence Roskens and Delayne Hanssen and her father and mother-in-law, John and Martha Hanssen.
