Pearl R. Tapken was born April 20, 1916 in Jerauld County to Claus and Matilda (Claussen) Stange. On January 17, 1936 she married Henry Tapken.  She worked as a telephone operator in Letcher for several years and then was a cook for the Letcher School for many years.  She also cooked for the Storla Sunset Home.  She was a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ and was a 4-H Leader for many years.  She enjoyed baking, cooking, sewing and growing flowers.  Her true love are her three children, six grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and twin great-great-grandbabies.

She is survived by her son, Jay Tapken of Sioux Falls, SD; her two daughters, Jean McClane and husband, Darwin of Letcher, SD and JoAnn Armstrong of Sioux Falls, SD; six grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and twin great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, six brothers, John, Marx, Milo, Harry, Elmer and Vernon and a son-in-law, Lawrence Armstrong.
