John Milton Johnson was born April 8, 1925 in Aurora County, to Axel and Esther Johnson. He grew up on the farm and received his schooling from the rural Patton School. He served in the US Army during WWII. He farmed his entire life until retiring and moved to White Lake in 1989. On January 5, 1945 he married Carolyne Malinda Knigge.
He is survived by his children: Nancy Wiebe and husband, Ted of Burns, KS, Gayle Krumvieda and husband, Russ of White Lake, SD, Jim Johnson of Worthington, MN, Leon Johnson and wife, Bonnie of Sioux Falls, SD, David Johnson of Mitchell, SD and Mike Johnson and wife, Peggy of Mitchell, SD; eighteen grandchildren and thirty-one great-grandchildren.
John was the last surviving member of the Axel Johnson family. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife in January, 2001, six brothers: Elmer, Glen, Milburn, Clifford, Claire and Gordy; three sisters: Linnea Swanson, Ethel Schenk and Doris Johnson; a daughter-in-law, Joan Thompson Johnson and a granddaughter, Jolene Wiebe.
