Harold Edward Schlimgen was born March 11, 1912 at Mitchell, to Edward and Carrie (Trinnen) Schlimgen. He grew up in Mitchell and graduated from Notre Dame High School. On July 15, 1932, he married Bridget DeVon Lynch at Redfield, SD. He served in the US Army during World War II in Europe where he was a railroad brakeman on supply trains. He was a longtime Mitchell resident and worked for the Milwaukee Railroad and then Famous Brands Wholesale Liquor until his retirement in 1977. On July 12, 1996, he married Margaret Lynch at Luverne, MN, and resided there until May of 2004, when he returned to Mitchell. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, Moose Lodge, Elks Lodge, American Legion and VFW.
He is survived by four sons: William Schlimgen and wife, Sib, Spotsylvania, VA, Robert Schlimgen and wife, Ruth, Newbury Park, CA, Ronald Schlimgen and wife, Leanne, Thousand Oaks, CA and Joe Schlimgen and wife, Janice, Mitchell, SD; thirteen grandchildren and twenty-six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, “Bonnie” and his second wife, Margaret, his parents, two infant sons, his brother, Donald, and his sister-in-law, Wilma Delancey Schlimgen.
