Oliver “Ollie” John Hanten was born on October 27, 1924 to Nick & Susan (Liebrich) Hanten in Platte, SD. The family moved to White Lake soon after and that is where Ollie called home. He graduated from White Lake High School. He married Lorraine Markhardt on January 17, 1964 and spent his whole life farming north of town, where he operated Hanten Grain for many years.
Ollie lived a very generous life which followed this simple order: Faith, Family, Farming, Community, and Country. He was a life-long member of St Peter's Catholic Church. He also served many years as a County Commissioner and on the Aurora-Brule Rural Water Board. He loved visiting and getting to know people. He was known to greet people with a handshake, a wink and a smile. He could be found at all the community events. He also was known to have played a few games of cards. He loved sports, especially baseball & bowling.
Ollie liked to travel. In his twenty's, he traveled to Europe on a pilgrimage. He also made many road trips to visit family and friends. One of his last trips was to Lambeau Field when he was almost ninety.
Ollie was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, and five brothers.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Lorraine; children, Lisa, Mark, Lee & Jan; grandchildren, Olivia Hanten, Randa Vanden Hoek, Skyler & Quinn Hanten; sisters, Loyola Myers and Susan (Mike) Kerrick; sisters-in law, Arlene Hanten and Dee Hanten; along with numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
