Betty Lois Lyle was born September 12, 1921 at Chamberlain, SD to Walter and Clara (Vosberg) Johnston. She moved to Mitchell with her family while she was in the 4th grade and graduated from Mitchell High School in 1940. Following high school she worked as a dental assistant for Dr. Kimball in Mitchell. On March 22, 1945 she married H. Clinton Lyle. She was a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ, the Women’s Fellowship, P.E.O. Chapter J, the VFW Auxiliary, Corn Palace Shrine Club Auxiliary, Methodist Hospital Auxiliary and volunteered at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital for many years. She was past president of the Girl’s Scout Council, served on the Camp Arroya Committee for many years and worked the Corn Palace Box Office for several years. She is survived by her two children: Larry Lyle of Letcher, SD, Barbara Schmidt and husband, William of Mitchell, SD; one brother, Willis Johnston of Mitchell, SD; four grandchildren: Kelly Schmidt, Tracy Tronnes, Lisa Lannon and Joe Lyle; four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clinton in July 1992, her parents, two brothers, Robert and Thomas Johnston and a grandson, Samuel Tronnes.
