Kenneth Puepke, 78, of Ethan, SD, died Friday, February 23, 2018 at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital in Mitchell, SD. Funeral service will be 10:30 AM Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at Bittner Funeral Chapel in Mitchell. Burial will be at Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery in Ethan. Visitation will be 5-7:00 PM Tuesday at Bittner Funeral Chapel.
Kenneth Walter Puepke was born on November 27, 1939 to Walter and Erna (Blume) Puepke in Parkston, SD. He was united in marriage to Patricia Carstensen on October 28, 1961.
They farmed 11 miles west of Parkston for 17 years. In 1978 they moved to Ethan. Kenny was a member of the Ethan Volunteer Fire Department. He was a bus driver for the Ethan School District for many years and also worked for the city of Ethan as the City Maintenance Supervisor until his retirement.
Kenny was a kind hearted, loving husband, father and grandfather. He loved spending time fishing on the Missouri River and camping with Patricia and his family. He enjoyed playing his guitar to some of his favorite Johnny Cash songs. He also enjoyed playing darts, playing cards, hunting, watching his grandchildren’s activities and spending time with his family.
Grateful for having shared his life are his loving wife of 56 years, Patricia; 5 children: Julie Wheeler, Hartford, SD; Doug (Bonnie) Puepke, Parkston, SD; James (Angela Harvey; children Jessica Harvey, Brittany Harvey and granddaughter Avery) Ethan, SD; Donald (Melissa) Puepke, Pierre, SD; Jody (Donald) Henglefelt, Alexandria, SD; Siblings: Norma Jean (Robert) Spaans, Salem, SD; Dennis (Marge) Puepke, Ethan, SD; 10 grandchildren: Dustin (Taylor) Wheeler, Jeremy (Brittany) Puepke, Kenny Puepke, Danialle (Jake) Hohn, Morgan Puepke, Maci Puepke, Dawson Puepke, Miranda Henglefelt, Ashley Henglefelt, Carter Henglefelt; 5 great grandchildren: Waverly Wheeler, Brooklyn Puepke, Jordan Puepke, Hunter Hohn, Cheyenne Hohn. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Delores Bullington.
