Thomas Stirling

Thomas Stirling, 67, of Ethan died, Saturday, February 3, 2018 at his home under hospice care.  Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Wednesday, February 7, at Sts Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Dimock.  Burial will be at Milltown Cemetery of Milltown, SD.  Visitation will be from 5-7:00 PM Tuesday at the Bittner Funeral Chapel with a prayer service at 7:00 PM.  

Thomas Bryan Stirling was born December 6, 1950 at Parkston to James and Marlys (Rath) Stirling. He attended school in Parkston graduating from high school in 1969. He attended MTI where he graduated with a degree in Electrical Construction and Maintenance. Tom served with the Army National Guard from 1971 to 1977. On September 1, 1973 he married Cheryl Muntefering. He worked as an electrician at Coates Electric for 8 years and in 1978 began working as an Electrical Instructor at MTI for 31 years and was the ECM Department Head for 18 of those years. Tom has been a member of the SDEC since 1978 and has served as a SDEC Board of Director member. In 2016 Tom received the Person Of The Year Award. He enjoyed pheasant hunting, walleye fishing, gardening, tending to his fruit trees and working with his hunting dogs, Brittany and Dakota.

He is survived by his wife, Cheryl Stirling, father, James Stirling, brothers: Daniel and Dennis and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Marlys.

Cheryl, My sympathy to you. I am very sad tonight as I just learned of Tom's passing. I would have come to his funeral this morning if I had known. I will miss his smile and his laugh. We were classmates at Sacred Heart and PHS, cousins, and always friends. My son thought highly of him as Tom was his ECM instructor at MTI. Tom would always go the extra mile to help any of his students. His sense of humor was shared by my son. We will both miss him.
