Obituary

Wayne Tietz, 72, of Mitchell died, Thursday, September 7, 2017 at Firesteel Health Care Center in Mitchell.  Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Friday, September 15, 2017 at the Bittner Funeral Chapel in Mitchell.  Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 5-7:00 PM Thursday at the Bittner Funeral Chapel.

Wayne Raymond Tietz was a kind soul and was known as the “toy man” by many of his great-nieces and nephews.  He was born April 5, 1945 in Rapid City, SD to Lawrence and Annie (Schillinger) Tietz. He moved with his family to Mitchell, SD where he grew up and attended school. On February 5, 1972, he married Barbara Lynn Schrank at the First Lutheran Church in Mitchell. Wayne was employed by Coca-Cola Bottling Company in Mitchell for 35 years.  He was an avid fisherman, enjoyed camping, and going to rummage sales. His greatest joy in life was his son, Matthew, and both shared a love of watching WWF Wrestling. He enjoyed time with his family and friends and was always one to help out. He was involved with the Salvation Army where he served as chairman of the Men’s Club for numerous years.

He is survived by one brother, William (Helen) Tietz of Mitchell and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara and son, Matthew; his parents and two sisters: Shirley Strand and Bernice Turnbull.
