Kirk Oehlerking, 61, of Sturgis, formerly of Letcher, died Sunday, September 3, 2017 at his home. Funeral services will be 3:00 PM Saturday, September 9, 2017 at the Bittner Funeral Chapel in Mitchell. Burial will be at Westlawn Cemetery in Letcher.
It is with great sadness that the family of Kirk Dixon Oehlerking announces his passing at the age of 61. He died at his home Sunday, a victim of suicide. He was born December 7, 1955 in Huron, SD to Otto, Jr. and Lola Oehlerking.
He attended schools in Letcher and Mitchell, and worked in construction until he moved to Arkansas where he worked for the USPS. He moved to Sturgis in 2015 where he was a substitute mail carrier.
Kirk rejoiced in life’s simple pleasures, like reading a good book, walking through the woods, and watching the sun rise over his morning coffee. He loved spending time with his many family members and friends, and was best known for his kind nature and warm and generous heart.
He is survived by his wife Angela; three daughters, Shaunta Oehlerking, Brighton, CO; Sara (Eric) Bouchard, Blossvale, NY; and Samantha (Eric) Oehlerking, Milan, Italy; eight grandchildren; siblings Bonnie Hulbert, Rapid City, SD; Kathy (Delbert) Northrup, Mitchell, SD; Otto III (Carol) Oehlerking, Rapid City, SD; Dale (Elaine) Oehlerking, Brentwood, TN; and Jewel (Ron) Oehlerking Weilander, Sturgis, SD; many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, twin brother Kyle, three nephews, and one great nephew.
