Obituary

Lelah Annis, 97, of Spearfish formerly of Mitchell, died Friday, August 25, 2017 at Dorsett Health Care Center in Spearfish.  Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Thursday, August 31, 2017 at First United Methodist Church in Mitchell.  Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 5-7:00 PM Wednesday at the Bittner Funeral Chapel.  Memorials may be directed to First United Methodist Church.

Lelah (Baldwin) Annis was born July 19, 1920 in Alpena, SD to Jess and Kathryn (Kopfman) Baldwin. Her family moved to Alexandria, SD.  She attended school in Hanson and Davison County and Ethan High School.

She married Lyle Annis February 24, 1937.  They farmed Southwest and Northwest of Mitchell until moving to Loomis, SD in 1956, later moving to Mitchell in 1961. In 2007 she moved to Spearfish, SD.  She worked at Geyermans Clothing Store.  After raising her family she worked at Jack’s Camping Center for over 20 years.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Mitchell, the Eunice and Esther Circle, volunteered at the Corn Palace and nursing homes.  She was a member of James Valley Community Center.

Survivors include her daughters Donna Love, husband Chuck, Overland Park, KS; Diane Annis, Portland, OR;  Lolli Meade, husband Jim, Spearfish, SD;  Lila Annis (Dick's wife) Mesa, AZ; 5 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren; two brothers, Homer Baldwin, Omaha, & Harvey Baldwin, Mitchell; Gladys Baldwin(Ken's wife) Alberta Baldwin, (Wilbur's wife) and many nieces,  nephews and friends.

She was proceeded in by her husband Lyle; her son Richard (Dick), parents Jess and Kathryn Baldwin; two brother Ken Baldwin, Wilbur Baldwin; and sister Helen Blindauer.

Donna--I was sorry to read that you have lost your mom. She was just 1 1/2 years younger than my mom--who we lost on July 21. We know that we have to let them go, but it is hard no matter how old they/we are. The Backlunds are thankful for the many, many memories we have--as I'm sure that your family is. Cherish them, and your mom will live in your hearts forever.

I waited on Lyle and Lelah for many years at I-90. They were two of my very favorite people and I remember them both fondly.

Lolly, I'm so sad to here of the passing of your mother😒. My deepest condolences go out to you and your family. No matter how long we are blessed to enjoy our mamas, there isn't a good time to say goodbye πŸ’–πŸ’πŸ™πŸ»
