Dorothy Faye Edwards Weinberger was born April 27, 1923 at the Redstone Valley Farm at Artesian, SD to Jervis Leroy Edwards and Anna (Figland) Edwards. She attended grade school at the Shaffer Country School and graduated from Artesian High School in 1941. As a young woman she worked at Boelters Grocery Store, Central Electric and Central West Telephone Co. in Artesian. She moved to Illinois working at Deere and Company for three years followed by three more years at JI Case CO in their offices. She married Charles Weinberger April 22, 1945 in Illinois. They moved back to South Dakota where they had two children, Lois and Don. She and Chuck farmed and Dorothy worked for the ASCS Office in Woonsocket for 25 years before retiring.
Dorothy loved to sew, especially doll clothes. She and Chuck spent their retirement years traveling in their motorhome. She volunteered time to her church and Senior meals in Artesian. For many years she wrote the Artesian News for the Sanborn Weekly Journal. She faxed her last column, on March 13, 2017, to the newspaper the day she became ill. Her family and many friends will miss this dear lady.
She is survived by her daughter, Lois (Wayne) Liedtke of Windsor, CO and son, Donald (Mary) Weinberger of Mitchell; grandchildren: Kim Hoffman, Kris (Tanya) Weinberger, Kyle (Mesja) Weinberger and several great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Charles, and two grandsons, Brodie Liedtke and Joshua Liedtke.
Memorials are preferred to be made to the First Lutheran Church in Artesian.
