Terry Lee "Toad" Hanson was born April 28, 1949, in Mitchell, SD to Willard and Myrtle (Foster) Hanson. He attended school in Alexandria until the 5th grade when he moved with his parents to Mitchell. He graduated in 1967 from Mitchell High School.
He moved to Chicago in the early 1970s and later to Colorado before returning to Mitchell. He was an avid sports fan, a great athlete in his younger years, and loved to fish for walleye in the Missouri River.
On September 9, 1984, he married Gloria Cofer at their home in Mitchell. He worked various construction jobs and at Fullerton Lumber Company before taking a job in the maintenance department at Dakota Wesleyan University. He retired from DWU in 2005 after 14 years.
He is survived by his wife, Gloria, Mitchell, SD; a daughter, Crystal (Jeff) Moore, Mitchell, SD; a son, Jesse (Jennifer) Hanson, Loomis, SD; grandchildren: Connor, Christian, Caleb and Caden Moore, Maddison Hanson and Gavin Franks; a brother, DeWayne Hanson, Mitchell, SD; a sister, Millie (Ray) Fischer, Parkston, SD; two sisters-in-law, Marie Hanson, Alexandria and Linda (Jim) Preacher, Springville, CA; and brother-in-law, Jim (Susan) Cofer, Salem, OR . He is also survived by four special nephews: DeWayne, Del, Darrell and Dave Renken as well as many other nieces, nephews and old friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Shirley Renken; three brothers: Delton, Robert and Donald Hanson; and a grandson, Nathaniel, in infancy.
