Obituary

 

Harold Henry Nearhood was born March 19, 1925 at Ethan, SD to Ezra and Mabel (Dodd) Nearhood. He graduated from Ethan High School and then served in the US Army for two years. On July 26, 1948 he married Beverly Blacksten in Mitchell. They farmed near Ethan their entire life and Harold was also employed as an insurance agent for Farmers Union Insurance. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Ethan, the Elks Lodge and the Farmers Union. Harold enjoyed playing cards and attending auction sales. He and Bev had traveled to every state, with the exception of Hawaii.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Beverly; four daughters: Nancy (Delmar) Mueller of Ethan, Patty (Len) Scheich of Mitchell, Wanda (Steve) Helmers of Rapid City and Stacey (Chris) Brophy of Denver, CO; one son, Bruce (Kim) Nearhood of Rapid City; fourteen grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by six sisters and one brother.

Beverly and family--We were sorry to hear that Harold had passed away. I will always remember him as having a quiet manner and a smile on his face. You will miss him, but keep your memories close and he will live in your hearts forever. Love, Judy and Don
