Cheryl Ann Baldwin was born September, 23, 1943, in Sioux Falls, SD, the daughter of Irene (Seeman) and Roger Baldwin of Mitchell. Cheryl was a story teller extraordinaire. She relished a good story, shared it with her students and invited them to tell stories too. For 30 years, Cheryl made words come alive for students at Mitchell High School; one of those teachers you always remember. With humor and wit, she taught us all about celebrating life.
Cheryl was a full time Mom to her three sons, Michael, Jason, and Seth, and Grandma to their children. She cheered them all on at tons of baseball games and other school events. Her “goonies” as she called her grandchildren, frequently sought her counsel and attention.
She and her husband of 48 years, Jim Myers, enjoyed working on rodeo activities. Her western garb was notorious. She was a member of P.E.O. and a judge for local speech contests. She loved collecting, seeking out antique glass and porcelain, and a good story at one of the many sales she attended. Her favorite holiday was Halloween and the costumes she put together for the family were creative. After retirement, she and Jim loved their winters in Mesa, AZ.
Cheryl is survived by her husband, James Roland Myers, and sons: Jason Roger Myers, Seth Andrew (Caroline) Myers, both of Mitchell, and son, Michael James (Grace) of Surprise, AZ; and eight grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Bonnie Kasten of Scottsdale, AZ, Linda Baldwin incent) O’Hern of Madison, WI; and her sister-in-law, Pam Durst of Brookings, SD; her grandchildren include: Adelina and Gavin Myers, Surprise, AZ, Madeleine Macleod, Aiden and Alyse Myers, Emma Feldman, Piper and Kirby Myers, all of Mitchell. She is also survived by her nephew, Erick (Teri) Durst of St. Paul MN.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Memorials for Cheryl can be made to the Mitchell Community Scholarship Fund, 821 North Capital Street, Mitchell, SD 57301.
