George Samuel O’Neill was born October 22, 1927 at Fedora, SD to William and Blanche (Orsborn) O’Neill. George attended the Fedora School for 11 years. His mother died after his junior year and he and his brother and sister went to live with their Uncle Arnum and Aunt Alice Blumenberg. George graduated from Fulton High School in 1945. He enlisted in the US Army, serving one year in Korea. He attended SDSU for two years, then began working in the Fulton State Bank where he was employed for 40 years. On June 1, 1952 he married Mary Ann Franks. They resided in Fulton for 64 years and wintered in south Texas 24 winters. George was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and had served on the Fulton School Board and the Hanson School Board when it was reorganized.
He is survived by his wife, Mary, one daughter, Kim (John) Schaefers of Alexandria, two sons: William O’Neill of Sioux City and Steven (Annette) O’Neill of Rapid City, three grandsons: Matthew (Carrie) Schaefers, Mark (Becky) Schaefers and Jacob Schaefers, two great-grandchildren: Mellani and Colton, one brother, Donald (Betty) O’Neill of Fulton and a brother-in-law, Vernon Vlasman of Mitchell.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Ilene Vlasman.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be directed to the Zion Lutheran Church in Mitchell or Graceland Cemetery at Fulton.
