Michael Dean Thompson was born in Mitchell, SD on October 6, 1957 to Donald P. and Mary E. (Hanson) Thompson. He graduated from Mitchell High School and received an associate degree in welding from Mitchell Tech. He was employed as a welder at Twin City Fan.
Mike was very organized and a perfectionist who believed in “doing it right and doing it well.” His strong talents were welding, painting, carpentry and woodwork. Pheasant and deer hunting were his biggest hobbies but he also loved coaching all of his children in softball. He was involved with fastpitch and slowpitch softball leagues and enjoyed being at the ball field. He was a great fan of the Minnesota Vikings and Minnesota Twins. Mike learned to ice skate so he could coach his sons, Dylan and Dustin in hockey. He loved fishing in tournaments with his sons and brothers, trap shooting, golf and a beanbag team. Most of all he had a big heart and will be missed.
He was a member of Northridge Baptist Church, Pheasants Forever, and Pro Hockey Hunt Board.
He is survived by the love of his life, Linda Neugebauer, Mitchell; sons, Dylan and Dustin Thompson both of Mitchell; three daughters: Amber (Kris) Goldammer, Mitchell, Lacy (Trevor) Bechen, Mitchell and Mikella (Phillip) Gartner, Roberts, WI; six grandchildren; his mother, Mary Thompson, Mitchell; siblings: Donald A. Thompson, Mitchell, Edwin P. (Patti) Thompson, Mitchell, Lori (Dan) Allen, Mitchell and Steven H. (Carmen) Thompson, Harrisburg, SD .
He was preceded in death by his father, Donald Thompson, his grandparents and numerous aunts and uncles.
