Arnold W. Roskens was born June 11, 1923, on the family farm near Emery to Herman and Bertha (Veenker) Roskens. He married Vera Straka on May 2, 1946 and they were blessed with four children. Arnold accepted the Lord as his Savior at a young age and confirmed his confession of faith by being baptized and became a lifetime member of First Baptist Church of Emery. Arnold worked in the Emery, Canistota and Sioux Falls hatcheries until moving to the family farm in 1950. He and Vera farmed until 1996 when they retired and moved to Emery.
He served his country during WWII and was the recipient of the purple heart and bronze star. Spending time with his family and friends was important to him, playing games, golfing and giving the great-grandchildren “high fives”!
Those family members left to celebrate his life are: one daughter, Valorie Thomas of Mesa, AZ; sons: Jerry (Wanda) and Ron (Lisa) of Emery and son-in-law, Merv Fjerestad of Sioux Falls; ten grandchildren and their spouses; twenty-one great-grandchildren and four step great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Vera, his daughter, Jannel, his mother and father, one sister, and four brothers.
Memorials may be directed to Emery Baptist Church
or Compassionate Care Hospice of Sioux Falls, SD.
