Helen Maxine Eberhard was born on March 31, 1921 in Ottumwa, IA to Harold Phillip and Helen Madeline (Johnson) Eberhard. She grew up in Ottumwa until the family moved to Mitchell in 1936. Helen graduated from Mitchell High School at 16 years old and then attended Mitchell Business College for a year. She went to work at Mizel Motor Company and then the Mitchell National Bank where she worked until her marriage.
In 1943, Helen met Myron “Mike” K. Hunt while he was stationed with the US Army Air Corp at the Mitchell Municipal Airport. They were married on January 1, 1946 when he returned from Europe at the end of WW II.
Helen loved to spend time with family, playing cards and board games with friends. She was a member of the VFW Women’s Auxiliary and Eastern Star. She attended Mitchell Wesleyan Church and volunteered to play piano for church services at Firesteel Healthcare Center for seventeen years.
Helen is survived by two daughters: Kathleen (Gary) Lambert of Mitchell and Shelley (Bill) Smith of Ray City GA; two sisters: Jeanne Maxwell of Destin FL and Marcene Usher of Mitchell; two sisters-in-law: Bonnie Eberhard Orr of Mitchell and Evelyn Ragains of California; seven grandchildren, six great-grandsons and many much loved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Helen is preceded in death by her husband, Mike in 2012; her parents; her in-laws, William and Bernice Hunt; her brother, Harold W. Eberhard and three brothers-in-law: John Maxwell, Louis Ragains and Robert Usher.
