Alice Marjorie Pickering was born November 27, 1913 at Omaha, NE, to Earl and Ina (Williams) Jorgensen. She grew up and attended school at Omaha and graduated from Omaha Central High School. She attended Grinnell College and graduated from the University of Nebraska. She was a social worker at Omaha, then attended graduate school at the University of Chicago. On June 1, 1940, she married Perry Pickering at Omaha, NE. They lived in Booneville, Evansville, Kokomo, and Indianapolis, IN. They moved to Mitchell in 1946 and she was an office worker at Abbott House. In 2005 she moved to Pierre to stay with her daughter. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Methodist Women, Unique Study Club, Alpha Chi Omega Sorority and a lifelong Nebraska Cornhusker Fan.
She is survived by two sons: Robert Pickering, Denver, CO; Paul Pickering and wife, Tamara, Scottsdale, AZ; four daughters: Carol Pickering, Pierre, SD, Joan Newland and husband, Gary, Rapid City, SD, Donna Seid and husband, Richard, Papillion, NE, Pamela Andraschko and husband, Steve, Fairfax Station, VA; one sister, Marion Moritz, Omaha, NE; one brother, Earl Jorgensen and wife, Jody, Rancho Santa Margareta, CA; ten grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Perry in 1991; her parents; one sister, Jean Zoesch; and two brothers-in-law, John Moritz and Richard Zoesch.
