Norbert Herbert Goehring was born January 27, 1928, at Delmont, SD, to Albert and Christine (Lindeman) Goehring. He attended the Bietz rural school and graduated from Delmont High School in 1946. After one year at South Dakota State College, he returned to Delmont as Editor and Publisher of the Delmont Record, his hometown weekly newspaper. On June 12, 1948 he married Bethel Nelson at Valley Springs, SD. They published the newspaper for nineteen years and he also served as Delmont City Auditor and the Clerk of the School Board. In 1971, after the sale of the paper to the Armour Chronicle they moved to Mitchell, where he worked for Mitchell Printing. They moved to Brookings in 1977, where he was employed at the print shop at the Coast to Coast Warehouse. They retired and returned to Mitchell in 1994. He was an active member of the Congregational United Church of Christ and served on the Church Council..
He is survived by his wife, Bethel of Mitchell; one son, Miles Goehring and wife, Betty of Pine Haven, WY; one daughter, Meribeth Fink and husband, Larry of Mitchell, SD; two brothers: Edgar Goehring and wife, Anetta of Sioux Falls, SD, Alton Goehring of Delmont, SD; one sister, Alice Jurrens of Weatherford, OK; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-granddaughters. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Erwin; and infant brother, Arthur; three sisters-in-law, Evelyn Goehring, Beulah Goehring, and Leona Goehring; and a brother-in-law, James Jurrens.
