Obituary

Russell L. Fouberg was born at home in Forestburg on April 15, 1921 to Robert and Lena (Johnson) Fouberg.  He attended school in Forestburg.  After leaving school he spent time in Iowa with his sister, Theone’s family, before serving in World War II.  He entered the service in 1942 and saw action in France and Germany before his discharge in 1945.

After the war he bought a farm three miles south of Letcher.  On August 22, 1949 he married Vera Brewer. In 1960 they moved to Letcher, but Russell continued farming and raising cattle until 2007. He took great pleasure in raising livestock with a quiet voice and a gentle hand.  Russell was a lifelong member of the Forestburg Lutheran Church where he and Vera served as Luther League advisers.  He was also a lifelong member of the Letcher Legion.

Russell is survived by step son, Ron (Kathye) Fouberg of Letcher, step-daughter, Sharon Mc Govern of Scottsdale, AZ, one granddaughter, Roxane Fouberg of Sioux Falls and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Vera, three brothers: Harold, Omer, Maynard; one sister, Theone and son-in-law, Timothy Mc Govern.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Russell’s name can be made

to the Letcher Volunteer Fire Department Building Fund

or Tormey Stach Legion in Letcher.

Thinking of you Roxane as you celebrate your grandpa's life. You speak so fondly of him and no doubt have wonderful memories to treasure! Thinking of you and your family at this time. Hugs!

It was always fun to visit Russ and Vera. I remember trying to complain to Russ about our "bad dog" and he very quietly told me there are no bad dogs, just bad owners. I loved his smile and his warm heart. i know he loved me even though I was hopelessly uninformed about all the Iowa friends and relatives he would ask me about.
