Jacqueline “Jackie” Markhardt was born in Salamanca, NY on June 25th, 1924. Her family moved to Sidney, MT when she was six. She graduated from Sidney High School in 1942. After high school, she worked for Sidney Electric. She moved to Port Orchard, WA and worked as a secretary to the Port Orchard Postmaster.
In Port Orchard, Jackie met her future husband, Merle Markhardt, who was serving in the US Navy. After the war, they were married on November 2nd, 1945 in Sidney, and they farmed north of White Lake for the remainder of their lives.
Grateful for having shared her life are her sons: Richard (Marilyn) Markhardt, David Markhardt and Timothy (Janet) Markhardt; grandchildren: Michele (Tige) Everson and their children, Ryan, Tyre, Ashley and Myshelle, Marsha (Rocky) Hauge and their children, Austin, Alexis and Arrick, Marlene (Josh) Janis and their children, Malcolm, Mikayla and Madilyn, Rick Markhardt, Wynn Markhardt, and Drew (Lindsey) Markhardt; two brothers: John (Jeanette) Smith and Robert (Carolyn) Smith.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Merle, her parents, John J. Smith and Ethel Schmid Smith (Nord) Lund, a brother, Ivan (Jean) Smith and a great-granddaughter, Emily Everson.
