Obituary

Lois Mae Rew was born on May 17, 1942, on the family farm, near Mt. Vernon, SD.  She was the 9th of 10 children to be born to Walter and Mary (Schoenfelder) Miiller.

Lois’s strong will became evident at a young age, following her mother’s independent spirit and moving to Mitchell, when only 16 yrs. of age and establishing herself as a fixture of the Newberry’s Drug Store counter and living in an apartment above the store.

Lois first married in 1959 and began raising her family of five and selling Avon in her spare time.    In 1972, the family moved to Armour, SD where she and her first husband owned and operated the local Chevrolet dealership.  Lois’s determination shown through once again as she took accounting  classes at night in Mitchell to broaden her education to allow her to run the financial side of the dealership.

In 1985, Lois and the kids moved to Mitchell, SD where she became the purchasing agent for Dakota Pork.  Lois married Arthur Rew, Sr. on December 20, 1986.   Art and Lois spent their time traveling to endless sporting events and creating the ideal lakeside home with the most beautiful lawns and gardens. Lois loved to garden, decorate and spend time with her family and grandkids.  She was the happiest when she could drag Art (or anyone available) outside for 10 hours working non-stop on their over six huge flower beds and rolling lawns. Lois cared deeply for her family and always worried about their well-being.  Lois was described by many as the strongest matriarch that they have ever met.

Over the years Lois taught catechism, volunteered as a Cub Scout Den Leader and was a member of the Community Club in Armour.  She was also a member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, Red Hatters Society, and local card clubs for years in Mitchell.

Lois is survived by her loving husband of twenty-nine years, Art Rew, Sr.;  her four children and their families:  Greg Nolz, (children: Zach, Nikki & Ashleigh), Omaha, NE, Sandra Johnston, (children: Kelsey & Allison), Omaha, NE, Melissa (Craig) Stricherz, (children: Sydney & Brendan), Omaha, NE, James (Jessica) Nolz, (children: Olivia & Sam), Brandon, SD;  step-children:   Kris (Mark) Benzel, Nashville, TN, Janine (Craig) Werling, (children: Emma, Hanna & Grant), Watertown, SD, Art (Audra) Rew, (children: Amelia & Ashton), Mitchell, SD, Dan (Brenda) Rew, (children: Elle & Isaac), Mitchell, SD; her first husband, Bernard Nolz, Mitchell, SD; sister, Janie Schoenfelder, Mitchell, SD; two brothers, Aldred (Anna Mae) Miiller, Phoenix, AZ, Ivan (Theresa) Miiller, Phoenix, AZ; and numerous nieces and nephews.
