Jacqueline "Jackie" Miller

January 30, 1927 - February 1, 2016

Jacqueline "Jackie" Miller was born to Harold Porter and Katherine Dunbar Thomas Howard on January 30, 1927 in Vermillion, SD.  She later moved to Stickney and graduated from Stickney High School.  There, as a young girl, she met the love of her life, Bob Miller.  After Bob returned from the service, they attended college at USD and were married in Vermillion on November 24, 1946. After Bob’s death in 1993, Jackie remained living in Stickney and continued working for the family owned business, the Stickney Argus.  In October of 2000, Jackie moved to Mitchell to be closer to her children and grandchildren.  She lived in her own home in Mitchell, where she enjoyed following her grandchildren’s activities and cooking lunch on a daily basis for family members until August 2015.

Some of her greatest joys in life were following family sports, coffee time with pie and muffins, and attending sister weekends/camp outs.  She loved to embroider and gave many items as gifts to children and grandchildren.  Her special gift was an embroidered dish towel or bath towel.  Many a new baby was given a gift of a bib from Grandma Jackie made by a special friend, Cheryl Peters of Stickney.

Jackie always wanted a big family, and her wish was granted as 11 children were born to this union: Rob (Pat) Miller, Ann (Arend) Kuyper, Susan (Lonnie) Callies, and Alan (Shelly) Miller all of Mitchell; Tom (Sheryl) Miller and Pat (Greg) Lien of Sioux Falls; Chris (Janell) Miller of Louisville, KY; Mary (Don) Oakland of Corsica; Melanie (Dan) Kuyper of Madison; and Lisa (Milton) Handcock of Onida; 44 grandchildren, 72 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. She is also survived by one brother, Harold “Beez” Porter (Barbara) Howard, sisters-in-law: Joan (Ron) Harris and Harriet Miller, 43 grandchildren, 72 great- grandchildren, one great great grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews. Her greatest gift to her family was her strong faith and devotion to Jesus Christ.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob; her parents, her son, Mick, and her grandson, Jeremy Lien.
