Theodore R. “Ted” Fuerst was born September 10, 1919, at Kaylor, SD to Emmanuel and Dorothea (Wagner) Fuerst. He grew up and attended school at Kaylor. During WWII he served in the US Army. On November 30, 1941, he married Annetta Uttecht at Parkston, SD. He worked at the Freeman Creamery for five years and farmed for fifteen years in the Parkston and Mount Vernon area. He was employed at Cenex in Mitchell for twenty years. On June 23, 1990, he married Nona Matecki at Mitchell.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, the Moose Lodge, Farmers Union, Palace City Sams, James Valley Community Center and the Retired Senior Volunteer Program.
He is survived by his wife, Nona; one son, Myron Fuerst and wife, Bonnie of Sioux Falls, SD; three daughters: Shirley Vearrier of Redfield, SD; Jolene Brink and Charlene Harbert both of Sioux Falls, SD; two step-daughters: Dee Halbur and husband, Martin of Carroll, IA; Alyce Scheurenbrand of Mitchell; three sisters: Dorothea Fuerst of Mitchell; Violet Fiedler of Turtle Lake, ND; Delores Sample and husband, Virgil of Mandan, ND and one brother, Ervin Fuerst and wife, Leota of Sioux Falls, SD; eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Annetta in 1985, two sons, one grandson, a son-in-law, five sisters and three brothers.
