Lewis Reisetter Larson was born March 23, 1925 in a house 1/2 mile west of Forestburg, SD, to Henry and Julia (Reisetter) Larson. When Lewis was six years old the family moved to a farm northwest of Forestburg. Lewis attended school in Forestburg and graduated in 1944. After graduation he enlisted in the US Navy and was first sent to North Dakota to college for six months then to Pensacola, FL for naval flight school. When the war ended Lewis returned to the family farm.
On May 29, 1948 Lewis married Bonnie Rose Gensichen at St. Wilfred's Catholic Church in Woonsocket, SD. They moved onto the Larson family farm near Forestburg and farmed there for over 60 years. Lewis and Bonnie Rose were blessed with 67 years of marriage and six children. In 2009 Lewis and Bonnie Rose moved to Mitchell and became members of Holy Spirit Catholic Church.
Being a farmer was Lewis’ life’s work and his faith was the foundation of his home. Lewis and “his Bonnie Rose” enjoyed dancing and traveling, through which they developed many close and lasting friendships. Lewis was known by those he met, for always having a good story (or two!) to tell.
Lewis peacefully passed away on Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at Avera Brady Health and Rehab at the age of 90 years, 5 months and 16 days.
Lewis is survived by his children: Robert (Karyl) Larson of Mt. Zion, IL, Mary Jungwirth of Benson, MN, Annette (George) Kosola of Spearfish, SD, Jane Miller of Mitchell, SD, and Elizabeth Larson of Winona, MN, 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie Rose; daughter, Bonnie Larson; parents, Henry and Julia Larson; his 4 sisters and their husbands; grandson, Steven Peterson; and sons-in-law, Greg Miller and Barry Jungwirth.
