Jacob Mathias Martin, Jr was born in Mitchell, SD on September 7, 1929 to Jake and Elizabeth (Peters) Martin. He grew up and attended school in White Lake, SD. In 1951 he was drafted into the US Army during the Korean War, serving 18 months until 1953. In September of 1954 he married Elnora Mabel Bintliff at Holy Family Catholic Church in Mitchell. At that time he took over his father’s farm until health issues caused him to move to Mitchell in March of 1969. After moving to Mitchell he bought the Harry Moller Insurance Agency, which he and his wife operated for 28 years before retiring. He loved all the years of playing cards and going to dances with friends and in later years he enjoyed going to coffee and visiting with others. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion and the Veteran of Foreign Wars.
He is survived by his wife, Elnora of 60 years, 5 children: Rick (Pam) Martin of Mitchell, Denise Asmus of Mitchell, Dodie (Bill) Boyd of Sioux Falls, Randy (Gayle) Martin of York, NE and Robert (Gretchen) Martin of Minneapolis, MN; 13 grandchildren: Josh, Jessica, Joey, Eric, Zac, Jennifer, Eliza, Heather, Kristi, Jeff, Alex, Stella and Frank, 19 great-grandchildren, his sisters: Mary Allen and EllaLee Schmitz, step-brothers: Tom and John Liebrich and step-sister, Marlene Jordahl.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Clarence and Ambrose, sisters, Clara and Lucille, step-brother, Gerald Liebrich and son-in-law, Alan Asmus.
