Obituary

Kyle Jackson Ries was born March 21, 1989 to Darlene Ries at Sioux Falls, SD.  At the age of two, Kyle was diagnosed with muscular dystrophy.  While growing up he lived with his family in several SD communities including Spearfish for several years, Mitchell since 2008 and most recently Bridgewater.

Being wheelchair bound, didn’t stop Kyle from getting out and socializing.  He had a great sense of humor.  He enjoyed having fun; making everyone laugh at his repertoire of movie quotes.    He enjoyed reading so much he read an entire set of encyclopedias.  Also, Kyle enjoyed playing computer games, watching wrestling and visiting with friends.  When able he took in car and motorcycle shows.  He was a great salesman and enjoyed boosting sales at family rummage sales.  Make a Wish awarded he and his family a trip to Disney World in Florida.  He liked doing service work like ringing bells for the Salvation Army at the Cabela’s location.  He had a White House Guest seat designated for him at President Bill Clinton’s graduation address at Deerfield, MN.  While in high school, he had a service dog, Oliver, who was a great companion and assisted with retrieving and opening doors.  He loved animals.  Kyle was a good listener and confidant to many and always ready to cheer others.  Kyle had a very special bond with his nephew, Donavon.

For the past five years, Kyle was in the care of Compassionate Care and for the last nine months had been living at Diamond Care Center in Bridgewater, SD.

He is survived by his mother, Darlene of Mitchell, SD; a sister, Ashley Goldhammer, Hartford, SD; his maternal grandparents, Nancy Greene and Donald Ries both of Mitchell, SD; one nephew, Donavon Goldhammer, Hartford, SD; several aunts, uncles and cousins.
