Obituary

Frances “Fran” Prickett was born on April 27, 1938 to Clifford “Sam” and Mary (Steiner) Welch in Parkston, SD.  She grew up and attended schools in the Parkston area, graduating from Parkston High School.  She married Vernon J Prickett on January 2, 1957 in Parkston.  They moved to Twenty-Nine Palms, CA and then returned to Mitchell in August, 1957 where they raised their family.  She graduated from Mitchell Vocational Technical School in Mitchell.  She and her husband operated Prickett Trucking for many years where she was a bookkeeper. She was a lifetime member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Holy Spirit Altar Society and American Legion Auxiliary.   

She is survived by five sons:  Vernon (Korrie) Prickett II, Stratford SD; Jeffry (Connie) Prickett, Mankato MN; Jay (Bert) Prickett, Jake (Bobbie) Prickett and Jess (Rebecca) Prickett all of Mitchell; three daughters:  Julie Mellan and Jill (Clayton) Mick both of Mitchell SD; Joan (Michael) Roenfanz,  Wahiawa, HI; one sister,  JoAnn (Joe) Hettinger, Wessington Springs SD and one brother,  Marvin (Toddy) Welch, Parkston SD;  31 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; her mother-in-law, Marian Prickett, Mitchell, SD;  son-in-law, Scott Brown, Alexandria SD; two brothers-in-law, Jim (Jane) Prickett, Minnetonka MN and Charlie (Karen) Prickett, Mitchell SD; a sister-in-law, Iris Nelson, Rye, NH and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon on June 26, 1998, daughter, Jean Brown, grandson, Sam Mellan and her parents.

Words cannot express how I feel about Franny's passing. I feel blessed I was able to see her on my visit and give her one last kiss. The whole family is in my thoughts and my prayers. May you all find comfort in the memories you have of time spent with her. Love you all.
