David K. Walsh was born November 30, 1947 at Kadoka, SD to Kenneth and Betty (Petrik) Walsh. He grew up at Martin, SD where he attended grade school and graduated from Todd County High School in 1967. He entered the US Navy in the fall of 1967.  After four years in the Navy, he returned to Mission where he began his work in retail business. He was involved in managing department stores in Grand Junction, CO, Lamar, CO, Silver City, NM and Socorro, NM before moving back to Mission where he owned and operated a hardware store. He later sold his store and then he managed the Ace Hardware Store in Mission, SD. In 2007 he moved to Emery, SD and was employed by Walmart in Mitchell. Dave was an avid fisherman and hunter and enjoyed passing this on to his nephews, Ryan and Tyler. He especially enjoyed the 4th of July Holiday with the fireworks and watching football in the fall. In his younger years he loved spending summers with his grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins at Long Valley, SD.  He was a proud member of the NRA for many years.

He is survived by his sister, Peggy Whiting, Emery, SD; nephews: Ryan Whiting and Skyler Whiting, Denver, CO; Tyler (Shawn) Whiting, Winslow, IN; aunt Dorothy Petrik, Martin, SD; special friends, Charles and Carol Tariq and Colton Whiting, Lamar, CO and many relatives and friends.

I'm so sorry to see of David's passing. I only met him once- when I took this photo. He was so kind and I was heartbroken to hear of his diagnosis. He was at peace with it and has been in my prayers every day since. Take comfort as you find your peace.

My sincerest sympathies to David's family on his passing. I worked with Dave at Walmart, and he always was so friendly. He always had a smile and was very pleasant. He joked that he had a sister with the same name, and so he always remembered my name. May you find peace in the coming days.

Peg, Thinking of you and you are in our prayers. Dave and I spent many, many hours, days, and actually years at Grandma and Grandpa Petriks, and Mom and Dad's. Memories are running wild for sure. Things like this really make one think of families. Love, Cuz'n Paul
