Gladys Geraldine Schleich was born on January 21, 1919 in Alexandria SD to Virgil and Mary (Kreutzfeldt) Sudbery. She attended and graduated from Fulton High School. She married George Schleich on June 3, 1942. They had three children (Mick, Sandy and Deb). They lived and farmed in Hanson and Davison counties for several years. They owned and operated a cafe in Alexandria. She also worked at the local grocery store in Alexandria for many years. Gladys served as the Register of Deeds for Hanson County for over eighteen years, until her retirement at the age of 70. She was a member of the Saint Mary of Mercy Catholic Church of Alexandria and the Sacred Heart League for many years. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
After leaving her home in Alexandria, Gladys was a resident of Meadowlawn Plaza and Crystal Manor before going to Firesteel Health Care in Mitchell.
Grateful for sharing her life are her daughters: Sandy (Charles) Degen, Alexandria and Deb (Jeff) Ellis, Mitchell; her daughter-in-law, Myra Schleich, Alexandria; her seven grandchildren: Sam Schleich, Susan (Mike) Hanley, Sheila (Curt) Clemens, Chad (Margie) Degen, Corey (Denice) Degen, Jennifer Van Pelt, Sara Van Pelt, her seven great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and her sister, Shirley Rubert, Salem.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George in 1969, her son, Mick, her parents, a brother, Dale Sudbery and a sister, Odessa Sudbery.
Gladys will be missed by her family and relatives, her many friends, by her care givers at Firesteel and by her wonderful friend and roommate, Ruth Mitchell.
