Pearl Olson was born on September 3, 1918 to James and Martha (Larson) Olson near Mount Vernon SD. Pearl had four sisters: Mamie, Myrtle, Stella and Gladys and three brothers: Earl, Ed and Jimmy. Pearl always worked hard and helped her brothers and sisters on the farm with the farm work.
Pearl attended elementary school at Webster Grade School and went on to Hopper High School. After high school she attended Notre Dame Academy and Dakota Wesleyan University. Pearl became a teacher and taught in many rural schools in Aurora and Davison counties. After thirty-eight years of teaching she retired and moved from the farm to Mitchell where she could be closer to her family. For several years she cared for her sister, Myrtle, until her passing in 2003.
Her life was devoted to her family and she loved teaching and the children she taught. Pearl had a beautiful rose garden and enjoyed gardening and visiting with family and friends. She especially loved the phone calls she received from her faraway family.
Her special friends were Ilene Brookbank and Riney and Virginia Stahlecker.
