Obituary

Frances Marie Mentele was born August 14, 1917, at Farmer, SD, to John and Catherine (Dorweiler) Haas. Fran was the youngest of eight children and grew up on a farm near Epiphany. She married Edward Mentele on May 24, 1938. She was a homemaker and mother to seven children. After her husband’s untimely death at age 56, she was employed at Methodist Hospital until her retirement. Mom enjoyed traveling to Italy, France, Germany, Switzerland and Austria in the 80’s. Her hobbies included crafting, quilting and attending garage sales. She was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church.

Fran was a resident of Avera Brady Assisted Living in 2008 and became a resident of Avera Brady Health and Rehab in November of 2010. She tickled the staff with her cute little giggles. We thank the staff for their kind treatment and loving care of our mother.

Survivors who are grateful for having shared her life include two sons: Reg Mentele (Suzan) of Mitchell and E. Steve Mentele (Mary Allison) of Rapid City; four daughters: Kae Box of Whitewright, TX; Jeanne Ledbetter of Garland, TX; Dixie Rivers of Box Elder, SD; Laurie Mentele of San Rafael, CA; fifteen grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren.

Fran was preceded in death by her husband, Ed in 1971, son, Rick in 2012, granddaughter, Teresa in 2000, her parents, five brothers and two sisters.

Jeanne & Family
Our thoughts and condolences are with you with the passing of your Mother & Grandmother.
I remember Your Mother as a very kind and cordial lady during times I visited your home in my youth. It is never easy to have to lose a parent. I hope everyone can celebrate her life and your fond memories of her. Frances was about 8 months older than my Mother Evelyn (now residing at Firesteel), who knew your Mother well.
We pray for safe travels for your family, as we know SD weather is nasty right now.
