Evan John Hohbach was born in Aurora County, SD on February 1, 1927 to David and Edith (Tietz) Hohbach. He attended school in Mount Vernon and graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1945. At age 18 he was drafted in the US Army and served as a clerk typist in Italy during WWII. He married Patricia L Johnson in Mitchell, SD on December 26, 1949. They farmed in the Mitchell area from 1950 to 1957 and also in the Mount Vernon area from 1957 to 1999 before moving into Mount Vernon.
Evan was a life long member at Zion Lutheran Church where he served as an Elder and also was a member of the Mount Vernon American Legion and the Plankinton VFW. He was a rural mail carrier for sixteen years and was also employed by the city of Mount Vernon. He served on the Mount Vernon School Board and the Mount Vernon Township Board.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia; a son, Steve and wife, Cheryl, Mount Vernon; four grandchildren: Melissa, Melinda, Brett and Kayla; two brothers, Don and wife, Maudene, and Lyle, both of Mitchell; one sister, Marie Meinke and husband, Wallace of Mitchell; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Earl; an infant son and daughter, and daughter, Sally.
