DeWayne Fredrick Klunder was born May 15, 1928 at Bridgewater to Fred and Vina (Schwans) Klunder. He graduated from Bridgewater High School in 1946. On May 14, 1952 he married LaVina Goosen. DeWayne served in the US Army during the Korean War. He farmed the family farm near Bridgewater his entire life. Shortly after the death of LaVina, DeWayne moved to the Grandview Assisted Living Center and then to the Diamond Care Center in Bridgewater. He was a member of St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church where he served in various positions, including the South Dakota Presbytery. He was a member of the VFW for sixty years. DeWayne and LaVina enjoyed traveling, especially by Amtrack. A highlight for DeWayne was a trip with his son, Mark to Korea where he and his fellow veterans were honored for their service.
He is survived by his son, Mark (Olga) Klunder, Lakeview, OR; two daughters: Mary Jo (Larry) Miller, Montrose; Marcia (Loren) Duerksen, Diller, NE; eight grandchildren: Adam Klunder, Portland, OR; Anthony Klunder, Park City, UT; Jordan (Sarah) Miller, Overland Park, KS; John Miller, Sioux Falls; Emily Miller, Omaha, NE; Jeremiah (Joni) Duerksen, Wahoo, NE; April (Matt) Eliker, Lincoln, NE; Natalie Duerksen and fiancé Nick Gaddy, Lincoln, NE and three great grandchildren: William Miller, Payton Duerksen and Grayson Eliker.
He was preceded in death by his wife LaVina, a sister, Irene Ringen and a niece, Judy Ringen.
