Francis "Frank" Metz was born on October 4, 1952 in Wayne Township, in Hanson Co near Alexandria, SD. He was the youngest of 11 children, born to Clarence Anthony Metz & Nina Josephine Benson Metz. When he was five years old, his mother died and the family moved to Rosedale Township in Hanson Co. Frank attended all 8 grades at Country School Rosedale #2. He attended Notre Dame High School and graduated in 1970. He attended college in Richardton, N.D. for 1 year, and then he graduated from Mt. Scenario College in Ladysmith, Wisconsin in 1974.
Frank moved to Portland, Oregon where he worked as a welder for 26 years at Harco Manufacturing. He then bought his own semi and worked for Werner Enterprises and hauled freight in all the lower 48 states until his passing. He had returned to Mitchell to live in later years, and became a member of the Wesleyan Church in Mitchell. Frank enjoyed studying the bible, coin collecting, working on cars, family history and raising Piedmontese cattle.
He is survived by 3 brothers, Carl (Jan) Metz, Barney Metz, John (Joyce) Metz all of Mitchell, SD; 5 sisters, Mary Borszich, Grand Junction, CO; Carolyn Stevenson, Margaret Johnson, Mitchell, SD; Kitty (Rich) Lund, and Christina Gardner, of Portland, OR. He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Louise Metz, Mitchell, SD; nieces and nephews, Dawn Niehoff, Russ Stevenson, Brett Johnson, Lisa Johnson, Sonya Johnson, Tammy Metz, Tony Metz; Jon Lund, Christina Lund, Bethany Lund, Robert Borszich, Steven Borszich, Roy Gardner, Catherine Gardner, Jennifer Keeland & Ryan Keeland.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Edward Metz; a sister, Lorraine (Dolly) Keeland, and a nephew, Eric Gardner; 2 nieces, Melissa Metz & Debra Stevenson; brothers-in-law Don Borszich, Melvin Stevenson, and Ralph Johnson; and a sister-in-law, Peggy Metz.
