Obituary

John E. "Jack" Veldheer was born to John and Jeannette (Van’t Haaff) Veldheer on January 10, 1932 at home in Academy SD. He graduated from Platte High School. On November 5, 1952 he and Arla M. Star started a 62 year love story. His last words assured her of his love.

They started married life in Toledo OH with Jack attending meat cutting trade school. He worked cutting meat in Grand Rapids MI, Pickstown SD, and Platte SD. They moved to Mitchell SD in 1958 to work for Sunbeam Bread.

1963 was the beginning of Jack’s Campers, starting with selling campers out of a melon stand on Havens Avenue. The business grew so it moved to its current location on I-90.

Jack‘s love of the Lord was his first priority and he shared this with everyone by singing, giving and encouraging. His joy was spending time with family and friends camping, traveling, fishing, golfing and spending time wintering in Florida.

Jack was a charter member of the First Reformed Church in Mitchell, helping in any way he could for many years and served on several other boards including Gideons, Lions and Salvation Army..

Grateful to share his life are his wife, Arla; his children, Kathleen (Dan) Matthews, Brenda Veldheer, Doug (Kari) Veldheer all of Mitchell SD, John (Rita) Veldheer of Kansas City MO;  twelve grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; three  sisters: Joyce (Allan) Polly, Platte SD, Jane (Larry) Meirle, Spring Lake MI, Jerralynne Tjeerdsma, Sioux Falls SD; three brothers:  Jim (Sandy) Veldheer, Grand Rapids MI, Buz (Dawn) Veldheer, Greer SC, Joel (Wendy) Veldheer, Grand Rapids MI; one brother-in-law, Vernon (LuVerne) Star, Corsica, SD; two sisters-in-law, Octavia Den Beste, Payson AZ, Kathy Veldheer, Grandville MI and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, three brothers-in-law, one sister-in-law and one great-granddaughter.

Arla and Family: Jack was indeed a generous, giving man who had impeccably high integrity. He loved to give to causes that had purpose and mission. His word was just as good as his signature and he always kept his word. He was a pleasant and challenging man to have as a friend. I learned much from him. May Our Father bring comfort and hope to each one of you now.

We will miss you but Praise God, Heaven is your gain! Arla, we love you and know the Lord will continue to walk you through the coming days, weeks, months and years--He is faithful and will show that to you over and over!

Jack helped our missionary friend by giving him and his wife a camper which was used in Mexico for many years in their film ministry. Jack also furnished needed items for thems. Our missionary friends and jack are now in heaven celebrating. We extend our sympathies to his family and friends. God Bless you all
