Alvin Jacob Hohn was born February 28, 1928 to Peter and Theresa (Tischler) Hohn in Dimock SD. He married Edna Anne Geidel in 1950 in Dimock. He was a Korean War veteran serving in the Army from 1950 – 1952 and stationed in Germany.
Alvin became employed for the City of Mount Vernon in 1971 and took on additional duties with the Mount Vernon School District, recently retiring from a part-time position in early 2014.
He was a member of the American Legion. He was a member of the Mount Vernon Fire Department from 1975-1994 serving as chief from 1976-1981
He enjoyed fishing in Chamberlain or Fort Thompson every day weather permitting and had a walleye fish fry for everyone on Christmas Eve. He also was an avid supporter of Mount Vernon sports.
Alvin is survived by his two daughters: Mary Jane (Ken) Giblin and Cherie (Kevin) Vanorny, both of Mitchell; two sons: LeRon (Cathie) Hohn, Kohler WI and Jeff (Lisa) Hohn, Riverton WY; one brother, Marvin Hohn and two sisters: Sally Jendersee and Delores Hohn; thirteen grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna in 1970; his daughter, Charlene Greenway and son-in-law, Robert Greenway; his parents, one brother, Jerome Hohn and one sister, Mary Ann Fischer.
Memorials to the Mount Vernon Athletic Department are requested in lieu of flowers.
