Goldie Marie Evans was born February 8, 1922 to Anton and Aleda (Meiers) Messer, at White Lake. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Saint Martin’s Lutheran Church, White Lake. She graduated from White Lake High School in 1939 and then worked at Hanten Merchantile. On April 17, 1947, she was united in marriage to Richard Evans at Saint Martin’s Lutheran Church. They began their life together on a farm seven miles north of White Lake until March of 1950, when they moved to a farm twelve miles north of White Lake in Patten Township. That would be her home for the next sixty-one years until she became a resident of the Aurora Brule Nursing Home in February of 2011. Goldie was active in community and church organizations. She was a member of the Community Extension Club, Fortnightly Club and was a 4-H leader for over twenty years. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, LWML and taught Sunday School and Bible School. Goldie loved children and enjoyed babysitting neighbor children while their parents were working. She retired from this in 2000 when she said, “I ran out of kids”. Goldie loved sewing, cooking, baking and recipe books. She continued to spot new or different recipes giving them to her daughters with a subtle hint of “you could maybe try this”. Goldie loved flowers and plants. In her room at the nursing home she continued to have a few plants and loved to have a vase of fresh cut flowers sitting within her view.
