Cecil Edward Hiles was born December 30, 1934 in Missouri Valley, Iowa to Louis and Anna Hiles. Cecil attended school in Missouri Valley through the fourth grade at which time the family moved to South Dakota. Cecil attended Lisbon country school through the eighth grade. He completed his education with a GED during his tenure in the Air Force. His four years of Air Force duty included time at Stead Air Force Base in Reno, Nevada; Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas and Hickam Air Force Base in Honolulu, Hawaii. Cecil was an Aircraft Engine Mechanic. Cecil married Joan Andachter on July 25, 1959 in Honolulu, Hawaii. Following the Air Force Cecil and Joan returned to Mitchell, SD. He was employed at Farmers Union; followed by North Central Seed Co. He owned and operated Hiles Standard Gas Station in Mitchell for a number of years. He was also employed at Myers Body Shop and was a Corrections Officer for Davison County. Cecil returned to farming in 1980 and remained active in farming until his bypass surgery in April of 2009. Cecil is survived by wife Joan and three children; David and wife. Shalli of Mitchell, Celia Burkinshaw of Mitchell and Brenda and husband, Jay Ivers of Mitchell; eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one sister, Garnett Smith. Cecil enjoyed hunting, camping and restoring antique tractors. He was a lifetime member of the NRA, Davison Shooting Club, and Twin River Old Iron Association. Cecil was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Anna Hiles, brother, Bill, sister, Maxine, step-mother, Laura Hiles, grandson, Jesse Burkinshaw, and great-grandson Anthony Herron.
