| Kenneth C. Sweeney Dates: April 14, 1923 - January 25, 2010Obituary:
Kenneth C. Sweeney was born at his home in Mitchell, SD, April 14, 1923, to Orva Franklin and Opal Wilma (Preston) Sweeney. He attended school and graduated from Mitchell High School in 1942. He worked for Western Union at Saginaw, MI, returning to Mitchell for a while and then worked in construction in Seattle WA. While waiting to be drafted, he came back to Mitchell and attended the machinist program at Mitchell VoTech. He entered the US Army March 5, 1943 serving in England, France & Belgium with the Army Air Force and was discharged September 30, 1945. Following the service, he worked for JC Penney Co. On November 10, 1945 he married Nelda Goodbla in Mitchell. They moved to Denver where Kenneth attended watch and jewelry school. After graduating he worked for Everett Cotton Jewelry and then he worked for Dahle Jewelers in Mitchell until 1974. He moved to Springdale, AR and worked for Perry Jewelry until his retirement in 1985. He returned to Mitchell in 2007 and had been a resident since that time.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church and a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Kenneth is survived by his son, Brian and wife, Rojean, Scottsbluff, NE; a sister, Velma Ashley and husband, Ralph, El Paso, TX and their daughters: Pam, Becky and Marie; a brother, Orva Sweeney, Forsyth, MO; four grandchildren: Chad Sweeney and wife, Allison, Augusta, GA, Holly Sweeney, Fort Collins, CO, Heather Stortz and husband, Carl, Tonasket, WA, Lisa Sweeney, Scottsbluff, NE; two great-grandchildren, Weston and Reese Sweeney, Augusta, GA; and a sister-in-law, Shirley Shaffer, Mitchell, SD.
He was preceded in death by his wife Nelda, in January 2005, an infant son Kenneth K. Sweeney, his parents, a sister, Theone Sweeney, and a brother Keith Sweeney.
