Obituary

Arlis Osen, 84, of Mitchell died, Friday, September 7, 2018 at his home under Hospice Care.  Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Thursday, September 13, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Mitchell.  Burial will be in Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery in Ethan.  Visitation will be from 5-7:00 PM Wednesday at the Bittner Funeral Chapel Church with a scripture service at 6:30 PM.  Arrangements are under the direction of the Bittner Funeral Chapel.

Arlis Phillip Osen was born July 14, 1934 in Mitchell, SD to Gunnar and Florence (Schurz) Osen. Arlis married Mary Ann Fritz on February 13, 1961 in Mitchell, SD. He was a farmer, machine repairman, machinist, and did building maintenance. He loved the farm, where he lived for nearly 83 years. He loved his family dearly and loved spending time with his grandchildren. He enjoyed being a kid with them; skipping down school halls and getting on the floor to play with them.

He joined the US Army in 1956 and was proud to have been a Paratrooper.

Arlis enjoyed repairing old clocks and "puttering" in his shop in his free time.

Arlis is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Osen, Mitchell; children Dawn (Brad) Buchholz, Monroe, SD, Bret Osen, Sioux Falls, SD, and Lon (Mary) Osen, Cape Coral, FL; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law Peggy Saxton, Tracy, MN; a sister-in-law Betty Musgrove, Moore, OK, and many other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandson, Eric Osen; three brothers; and two sisters.

My heartfelt sympathy is sent to all of Arlis's family. I have known him and loved him my whole life! I have so many wonderful memories of him. He was very special to me. I am so thankful to have been blessed to know him. Sending lots of love to Mary Ann, Dawn and family, Lon and family and Bret. Remember that love makes life worth living.
