Obituary

Yvonne Steffen, 83, White Lake, SD died Friday, June 15 at her residence.

Funeral services will be 10:30 am Tuesday, June 19 at Trinity Lutheran Church in White Lake. Burial will be in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery at rural White Lake. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 pm Monday at the church with a prayer service at 7:00 pm.  Arrangements are with the Bittner Funeral Chapel in Mitchell.

Yvonne Elizabeth Steffen was born April 8, 1935 to Gerhardt and Lucille (Lemke) Walz at the farm home west of Armour. She was baptized at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church on April 27, 1935 and confirmed at Redeemer Lutheran Church in May 1949. She attended schools at Mount Vernon and Armour, graduating from Armour High School in 1953. She was employed at First National Bank in Armour until her marriage to Lester “Bud” Steffen on February 11, 1956. Yvonne was active in her church as organist, Sunday School and Vacation Bible School Teacher, choir director and the Women’s Missionary League. She also worked at White Lake Grain and Feed for numerous years. She loved to read, was a seamstress and vendor at craft shows. Her family was her greatest love, after her faith in Christ.

She is survived by a daughter, Barbara (Ron) Bell of Sioux Falls, three sons: Ronald (Dona) Steffen of White Lake, Bruce (Cindy) Steffen of Bridgewater, MA and Douglas Steffen of Sioux Falls, six grandchildren: Ross (Christine) Bell, Rachel Bell, Tara Corrette and Joshua Steffen, Kristen (Alan) Bruinsma and Kelli Steffen; great-grandchild Madison Corrette; sisters: Eleanore McMullen of Portland, OR, Joan (Lee) Lyman of Sandpoint, ID, and Glenice (John) McQuade of San Juan Capistrano, CA, sisters-in-law: LaVonne Walz of Texas, Helen Allen of Ventura, CA and Renelda (Steffen) Lord of Prescott, AZ.

She was preceded in death by her husband Lester in 2012, an infant son, Richard, brother, Don, infant sister, Esther and her in laws: Alvina and George Stahr, Leona and John Schlueter, Wilmer and Suzy Steffen, Florence and Wes Jakeman, Donna and Arnold Jensen, Agnes and Maynard Grapentine, Leonard Steffen and Jerry Allen.

I loved my sister! She always helped me and I looked up to her. She was the valedictorian of her senior class. I will miss her terribly & look forward to seeing her in heaven
