Beverly Wiblemo, 89, of Sioux Falls, formerly of Mitchell, died at Southridge Healthcare Center in Sioux Falls. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Monday, March 19, 2018 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Mitchell. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Mitchell. Visitation will be 5-7:00 PM Sunday at Bittner Funeral Chapel in Mitchell.
Beverly Ann Smith was born in Elmore, Minnesota on April 2, 1928, to Ralph and Mary (Gately) Smith. She grew up in that small village with her sister, four brothers and dozens of aunts, uncles and cousins. Her father died when she was 10 years old and her mother raised the family. Bev graduated Valedictorian of her class at Elmore High School and attended Mankato State Teachers College, pursuing a degree in English and Music. While at Mankato State, she met fellow student and stand-out athlete Ronald Wiblemo of Mitchell. They fell in love and were married on June 26, 1950 in Mitchell.
Bev and Ron lived in Fairfax, Mankato, Mitchell, and Fedora during the early years of their marriage. In 1956, they moved to Wagner where they lived for 13 years. In 1969, they moved back to Mitchell, where nine of their ten children graduated from high school. After Ron’s death in 1983, Beverly ran for and was elected Davison County Register of Deeds. She served in this position for eight years. After 35 years in Mitchell, Bev moved to Sioux Falls. She passed away on March 13, 2018, at the age of 89.
She was a longtime member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Mitchell and St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Sioux Falls.
Beverly was the adored mother, grandmother and great-grandmother of an immediate family that numbers well over 100. She is survived by her sister, Marilyn Smith of Wareham, MA; ten children: Rhonda (Greg) Schneringer of Platte City, MO; Scott (Becky) of Lander, WY; Ron Jr (Lana) of Camdenton, MO; Tom (Dani) of Cheyenne, WY; Marilyn (Spencer) Berry of Fargo, ND; Patricia Case of Sioux Falls, SD; Jackie (Tom) Olson of Lansdowne, VA; Cathy (Jenelle) Wiblemo of Alexandria, VA; Jerry (Terri) Wiblemo of Lynd, MN; and Luci (Bryan) Youngberg of Yankton, SD. She is also survived by 41 grandchildren and 64 great-grandchildren. Beverly was preceded in death by her husband, Ron; granddaughter, Heather Wiblemo; great-grandson, Parkir McVicker; and son-in-law, Dan Case.
